Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Kelly Fradin’s experience surviving childhood cancer fueled her desire to become an exceptional pediatrician. Watching her parents cope has made her extraordinarily empathetic to both patients and their families.
Dr. Fradin attended Harvard College where she received an honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology for her thesis called “The Physiologic Response to Stress Across Socioeconomic Backgrounds.” She graduated from medical school at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City, and completed her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx. After completing her training, she was invited to the faculty at Montefiore, where she cared for inpatient and outpatient children with complex medical conditions, conducted clinical research, and educated medical students and residents.
Witnessing the limitations of office and hospital based pediatric practices, Dr. Fradin transitioned to work with public schools in the South Bronx. Through a public health lens, she observed that all parents wanted more support regarding their children’s health and well-being. So during her long commute from the Upper East Side to the Bronx, she started sharing parenting advice and children’s health information on social media. When coronavirus hit, Dr. Fradin transitioned again to helping inform and empower parents as a writer, speaker, and consultant, but missed the robust relationships with families and time caring for children, so returned to private practice.
Dr. Fradin is thrilled to care for families at Atria as the Chair of Pediatrics and Chair of Home Services. She also helps to oversee philanthropic initiatives in concert with the Atria Health Collaborative, and works to continuously innovate primary care with the support of the Atria Academy of Science & Medicine. Dr. Fradin is passionate about providing best-in-class care as well as positively impacting underserved communities.
Her book, Advanced Parenting: A Complex Care Pediatrician's Advice on Helping Your Child Through Diagnoses, Differences, and Mental Health Challenges, is inspired by her work helping parents learn the skills to navigate the health and educational systems.
