Dr. Caleb Moore
Medical Director of Atria Palm Beach; Internal Medicine
South Florida
Growing up in Rhode Island, Dr. Caleb Moore knew from a young age he wanted to be a physician. His grandfather was a surgeon in their hometown, and everywhere they went, Caleb would hear remarkable stories about his life-saving work. He was certain he would follow in his footsteps, but he also wanted to explore other paths along the way. “Having that focus freed me up to explore my other interests,” he says, “because I knew I would get to the science that would dominate my career.”
As an undergraduate student at Dartmouth College, Dr. Moore played football and, though he initially planned to major in biochemistry, shifted his focus to literature. “Literature is like medicine in a lot of ways in that it gives you a front-row seat to the breadth of the human condition—all of its ups and downs. It teaches you to be deeply, deeply empathetic,” he says.
Upon receiving his Bachelor’s in English Literature from Dartmouth, Dr. Moore spent a year conducting research in a pathology lab at the National Institutes of Health before moving to New York to begin his academic career in medicine at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Though he had planned to pursue a specialization in surgery, he ultimately decided he wanted to practice in such a way that he could develop continuous, enduring relationships with his patients. “I wanted to be there for all the ups and downs,” he says. “At the end of the day, human relationships are at the core of what’s important to me, and I want to be there for my patients day in and day out.”
Dr. Moore completed his residency in internal and family medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital and went on to become Chief Resident in internal and family medicine, also at Yale. “It was phenomenal,” he says. “A gem of a program with unbelievable teachers and mentors.”
His experience at Yale inspired him to pursue internal medicine on his terms, opting to sidestep the traditional model and instead start his own internal medicine practice with one of his mentors from Yale. They designed it so they could spend meaningful time with their patients—instead of rushing through appointments to meet standards set by insurance companies. He went on to open Greenwich Medical Partners, a beloved concierge practice in Connecticut, which he founded nearly 20 years ago and continues to oversee.
At Atria, Dr. Moore serves as a primary care physician and Chief Medical Officer in South Florida, where he has relocated with his family. “Atria is a utopian concept in medicine, with tremendous resources and a method of practicing that is deeply aligned with my own philosophy,” he says. “We have unbeatable facilities and a larger-than-life network of doctors to collaborate with.”
