Why We’re Here

The mission and vision of the Atria Health and Research Institute

At the Atria Health and Research Institute, we believe it’s time for a revolutionary shift from reactive sick care to proactive, preventive health care.

The world’s health care systems are remarkable in many ways. They are adept at managing acute crises, performing lifesaving surgeries, and addressing the symptoms of chronic disease. But at their core, they remain too focused on sickness. We founded Atria because we envision a world where health is preserved, disease is prevented, and longevity is enhanced—not by chance, but by design.

Our vision for health care

At Atria, we have a bold ambition: to deliver the world’s best preventive care. In doing so, we will also generate data to prove what works and share those insights widely and for free. We aim to empower individuals and health professionals alike with the knowledge needed to prevent disease, enhance quality of life, and ultimately transform the way health care is practiced worldwide.

We are pioneering a precision-based approach to preventive medicine and longevity that involves true collaboration across medical specialties and, just as importantly, with our patients. We work at the forefront of leading-edge science and technology, driven by the fundamental belief that personalized preventive medicine must be the future of health care—for all.

The challenge we face

The power of early intervention is clear. Today, 80% of strokes can be prevented. An estimated 45% of dementia cases could be prevented or delayed with lifestyle changes. Half of U.S. adults have hypertension, most of which is preventable. Nearly 38% of Americans have prediabetes, and 80% of them don't know it. When many cancers are detected at stage 1, the 10-year survival rate is 90%. However, many types of cancer are not diagnosed until they have progressed to a stage where treatment options are severely limited.

These gaps between what’s possible and what’s practiced must be closed. That’s why we constantly ask: What is biologically possible?

Research and education for the greater good

The Atria Research Institute, with a network of 100+ exceptional fellows, explores innovative preventive health care strategies and publishes scientific research to accelerate the translation of medical breakthroughs to the public.

Yet the adoption of new medical discoveries into clinical practice remains frustratingly slow. It takes an average of 17 years for new findings to reach doctors’ offices, while medical knowledge doubles in size every 73 days. With over 3,000 medical research papers published daily, no physician can keep up with the rapid advancements in their own field, let alone in the profession across specialties.

Delivering exceptional health care at Atria isn’t enough. We are committed to generating robust data to prove the efficacy of preventive approaches. We rigorously track outcomes, evaluate interventions, and build a body of knowledge that benefits not just our patients, but the entire world. We also collaborate with organizations working to close the gap between those with access to excellent medical care and those who need it most. Advances in science and medicine should benefit everyone.

Life-enhancing and life-saving knowledge should never be locked behind paywalls—that’s why we create and freely share modern medical education content for both clinicians and patients, and we encourage others to do the same.

A call to transform health care

This is a pivotal moment in medical history. We have tools that were unimaginable a generation ago, but tools alone aren’t enough. What we need is a paradigm shift—a commitment to using these advances to prevent illness, extend healthy lifespans, and improve quality of life for people everywhere.

Our vision is to accelerate a global shift from reactive sick care to proactive, preventive health care. By demonstrating that personalized prevention reduces chronic disease and extends healthy life, we aim to inspire a fundamental transformation in how health care is delivered.

Join us in shaping a future where health is preserved, not just repaired—where well-spent years and healthy longevity are within reach for everyone.
