Integrative Health

As a leading integrative health specialist, Michael Scott, ND, MSA excels at translating complex health and medical science into clear and actionable recommendations while providing personalized, relationship-centered care.

He serves as a bridge between cutting-edge conventional medicine and evidence-informed integrative approaches, often engaging with health care professionals across a spectrum of specializations. "I love working with patients and physicians who are curious. I want to bring people along," he says. "It's all about educating, collaborating, and doing what is in the best interest and service of the individual we’re caring for.”

Scott has spent more than 25 years bringing together integrative health with mainstream medicine to reach an ever-expanding population. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Developmental Psychology and Linguistics from the University of British Columbia, Scott had intended to pursue his lifelong career ambition in obstetrics and gynecology when he learned of a school of naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University in Seattle. “I took a hairpin turn,” he says, ultimately earning both his Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) and Master of Science in Acupuncture (MSA) and East Asian Medicine from Bastyr.

Scott's philosophy and approach to collaborative medicine took shape in 2003 while practicing in Northern Virginia, where he led the development of a first-of-its-kind integrative medical center. Working hand-in-hand with primary care physicians, specialists, nurses, and an urgent care team, creating a multidisciplinary facility and integrated patient care programming where conventional medicine, health and wellness services operated cohesively under the same roof.

Scott later served as Director of Complementary and Integrative Medicine with Sun Life (PinnacleCare), where he spent 18 years as a highly regarded and trusted medical consultant for clients seeking objective medical advice, health care navigation, available treatment options, and integrative health expertise.

As a contributing editor to the landmark Textbook of Natural Medicine, Scott has sought to promote integrative health and functional medicine, advocating for its widespread accessibility in the conventional healthcare system.

At Atria, Scott partners closely with an array of other specialists, focusing on precision lifestyle medicine, chronic disease prevention, metabolic health, women’s health, and healthspan optimization. He is passionate about helping individuals lead meaningful lives, bringing valuable evidence-informed insight and clinical guidance to making sustainable behavior changes that improve overall well-being. "The Atria model—with our focus on prevention, collaboration, and integration—is in my DNA," he says. "This is exactly how I have always wanted to practice: It’s medicine without boundaries.”

Outside of his clinical work, Scott can be found adventuring in nature as an avid trail runner, mountain biker, and skier, who loves to travel at every opportunity.
