Dr. Ryan Bober’s path to medicine began in childhood, inspired by his father’s career as a family doctor. As a child, he would frequently accompany his father to visit “family friends,” only to understand years later that these were housecalls.

The trusting relationship between doctor and patient is at the heart of what drove Dr. Bober into medicine. “I was always oriented toward science,” he says. “As you learn more and more about the body, it’s endlessly interesting. But I have also always loved being around people and forging those very real relationships. Seeing the way my father cared for people really meant something to me.”

Board-certified in internal medicine, nutrition, and obesity medicine, Dr. Bober trained at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center after earning his Doctorate of Medicine from Sidney Kimmel Medical College . At Cornell, he developed a strong foundation in endocrinology and metabolic health working alongside the group led by Dr. Louis Aronne, a top physician specializing in obesity medicine.

He went on to serve as an Attending Physician at Weill Cornell Medicine, where his primary care practice brought him adult patients at all ages and stages of health. From there, he moved to Los Angeles, where he was an Attending Physician at Cedars Sinai Medical Center before joining Atria as a Chief Medical Officer.

Today, Dr. Bober takes a holistic view of patient care. “As a primary care doctor, I think that is an important window you’re missing if you don’t talk about nutrition,” he says. “Things can often be siloed in health care settings and I like to look at the full picture.” Recognizing that nutrition education is often limited in medical school, Dr. Bober pursued additional certification and became board certified in nutrition through the Physician Nutrition Specialists program.

A patient advocate at heart, Dr. Bober sees his role as a guide through every step of his patient’ health journeys. He takes the long view, setting realistic expectations and helping patients shape a path for their health. “I always take a proactive approach to focus on what we can accomplish together today, and what that trajectory looks like to optimize health in the future,” he says.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Bober finds meaning in spending time with his wife and young child, cycling, hiking, and exploring the cosmos through amateur astronomy. He’s a dedicated birder and enjoys starting his mornings with Sam Harris meditations or the words of Alan Watts.
