Dr. Paul Skomra is a board-certified family medicine physician with a wide-ranging clinical background including comprehensive preventive medicine, healthy longevity, lifestyle, and mental health expertise. He combines his love for learning with an instinct for deep listening that has been the throughline of his career. His focus is on understanding the whole person, and using that depth to build a personalized path toward each patient’s health goals.

Growing up in Florida, Dr. Skomra was always interested in science and drawn to figuring out how things worked. His parents both worked at the local Veterans Affairs hospital, and time spent rounding with physicians there gave him an early look at the complexities and challenges of a large health care system. “Human physiology and the human psyche were the most interesting things to me. I loved learning who somebody is, what makes them tick, and then diving in to understand how we can make them feel better for a longer period of time,” Dr. Skomra says.

“I was drawn to primary care and particularly family medicine because it’s the most holistic area of medicine. It allows me to see a broad range of ages, a broad range of demographics, and helps me navigate all kinds of circumstances,” Dr. Skomra says.

Dr. Skomra received his Bachelor of Health Science from the University of Florida and earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, which led him to rotate through top hospitals across New York City's five boroughs. He then completed his family practice residency at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia and trained at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the United States.

During training, Dr. Skomra found himself particularly drawn to the behavioral and psychiatric dimensions of care—skills he has drawn on throughout his career. “I learned to zoom out, look at the big picture, and then help patients find solutions that way,” he says. “Dealing with mental health is a very personal thing, and it can impact your physical health, so it’s crucial to understand both.”

After residency, Dr. Skomra joined Swedish Medical Group in Mill Creek, Washington, where he cared for a diverse patient population with complex medical and psychosocial needs. The experience deepened his understanding of the many social, familial, and lifestyle factors that can play into someone’s health, and helped him develop tools to adapt care plans to each person’s individual circumstances.

He and his wife then relocated to Florida to be closer to family, and Dr. Skomra joined a private practice in Tequesta, partnering with his own childhood physician. “It was an honor to work with such an amazing mentor,” Dr. Skomra says. The busy practice allowed him to focus on adult primary care, including for older adults. Dr. Skomra then became a founding physician at the Mount Sinai New York concierge practice in West Palm Beach. There, he built a model centered on extended visits, advanced cardiovascular and metabolic screening, and close patient relationships.

At Atria, Dr. Skomra focuses on advanced personalized medicine and preventive care from every angle. “At Atria it’s all hands on deck, with everyone bringing their expertise toward the mission of optimizing each patient’s health,” he says. Dr. Skomra always begins by focusing on the fundamentals—metabolic health, cardiovascular health, neurological health, and lifestyle optimization including sleep, exercise, and nutrition. “Medicine has been preaching the importance of these for hundreds of years, but now we know that without these, everything else crumbles,” he says.

Dr. Skomra is also certified in longevity medicine by an organization called Longevitydocs and enjoys helping patients safely navigate an increasingly noisy landscape of health trends while staying at the forefront of evidence-based approaches. He creates a judgment-free environment and listens to each person’s story so they can partner to find the best path to keep them healthy over the long term.

Outside of work, Dr. Skomra enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is involved in the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, and regularly speaks about health topics and volunteers at nonprofits throughout his community. He also practices what he preaches, tracking metrics such as his sleep, stress, and heart rate variability, and always trying to stay as optimally healthy as possible.
